Manchester United are planning a double swoop for Bundesliga sensation Kai Havertz as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims to bolster his current squad ahead of next season. It is believed that The Red Devils are in pole position to sign Havertz, who plays for German club Bayer Leverkusen.
The Premier League club are known to have tabled a £50 million bid for the 20-year old attacking midfielder, who has also attracted interest from other top clubs such as Liverpool FC and Bayern Munich.
Havertz has shone for Bayer Leverkusen this season, with 12 goals and seven assists to his name in 17 appearances for the German side. Moreover, the young midfielder has even captained the Bayer Leverkusen side on a few occasions. Primarily an attacking midfielder, Havertz can also operate as a winger, which allows him to use his considerable speed and dribbling skills on the flank. Manchester United FC are very keen on signing the player, with Solskjaer having started negotiations with Havertz’s current club.
Havertz has emerged as a wonderful alternative for the Red Devils, who had previously targeted English international Jack Grealish to spice up their midfield. Moreover, there is the looming possibility of star player Paul Pogba leaving the club. In such a case, Havertz presents himself as an exciting young addition to the Manchester United FC squad. The 20-year old has the experience to his name, having played in the UEFA Champions League and appearing in seven matches for the German football team.
However, signing Havertz won’t be an easy task for the Red Devils, with the player having voiced his desire to stay in Germany and play for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. Also, Champions League football would be a top priority to the young midfielder who is hoping to progress his career further. United are not guaranteed a Champions League spot next season, with the Premier League club still vying for a top-four finish with Chelsea FC.
