After holding talks with manager Erik ten Hag, Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton has decided to stay at the club this summer (as per the Manchester Evening News).
The 37-year-old sought clarity on his future during the team’s pre-season tour in the United States, as he was attracting interest from Luton Town and Hull City. However, Heaton has now resolved to remain with the Red Devils.
The English keeper, who featured in five out of seven pre-season games for United, had a positive conversation with Ten Hag. The goalkeeper was even made captain for the team’s 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on Sunday.
The veteran star is pleased with the increased playing time he received during the pre-season, which has likely contributed to his decision to stay at the club.

In the summer, Man United extended Heaton’s contract by a year, following the decision to release David de Gea. Despite this, it is anticipated that Dean Henderson will still leave before the transfer window closes.
Heaton has only started two competitive matches for United. He returned to the club with the understanding that he would be the second-choice goalkeeper, but for a significant part of the season, he was relegated to the third-choice position.
United might consider signing another goalkeeper following the recent sale of backup goalkeeper Nathan Bishop to Sunderland. Additionally, Matej Kovar was excluded from the pre-season tour squad, as the club plans to send him out on loan again.
This indicates that the English giants are actively exploring options to strengthen their goalkeeping department.
