Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United: Man United Player Ratings | Premier League 2023-24

Manchester United faced a humiliating 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the second week of the 2023-24 Premier League season.

While United managed to secure three points in their previous match on Monday, it was clearly seen that Wolverhampton Wanderers had the upper hand in that encounter.

Erik ten Hag stuck with the same lineup, including Marcus Rashford as the striker, and Lisandro Martinez was declared fit despite his injury in the previous match against Wolves.

Pape Matar Sarr scored the game’s first goal, capping off his impressive performance. An own goal by Martinez extended Spurs’ lead later in the second half.

Here are the player ratings for Manchester United in their loss to Tottenham Hotspur:

1. Andre Onana – 6/10:

Made some good passes from the back but couldn’t prevent the Spurs’ goals.

2. Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5/10:

Kept Son quiet but lacked impact in attack.

3. Raphael Varane – 6/10:

Provided stability in defence but faced chaos around him.

4. Lisandro Martinez – 4/10:

Started well but struggled as the game progressed. Scored an own goal.

5. Luke Shaw – 5/10:

Shaky performance and allowed Kuluveski too much space.

6. Casemiro – 5/10:

Slightly improved from the previous game but was dominated in midfield.

7. Mason Mount – 5/10:

Energetic but lacked creativity.

8. Bruno Fernandes – 5/10:

Missed a key header and received a booking.

9. Antony – 4/10:

Ineffective and wasteful in promising positions.

10. Marcus Rashford – 5/10:

Isolated up front, needs to return to his favoured left flank.

11. Alejandro Garnacho – 5/10:

Failed to replicate previous form, too casual in tracking back.

Substitutes:

1. Diogo Dalot – 5/10:

Took up useful positions but had limited impact.

2. Jadon Sancho – 6/10:

Involvement was there to see and he should start in the next game.

3. Christian Eriksen – 6/10:

Provided more than Mount, and showcased good passing ability.

4. Anthony Martial – N/A:

Came on too late to rate.

5. Facundo Pellistri – N/A:

Also came on too late to rate.

In summary, it was a lacklustre performance from United, and changes are expected for the next match to address their issues in the final third.
