Tottenham out of the race to sign Manchester United target Christian Eriksen

Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen has given Manchester United an advantage in their pursuit of signing the free agent this summer.

As part of his midfield revolution, new boss Erik ten Hag wants to bring the 30-year-old midfielder to Old Trafford alongside Frenkie De Jong. During his brief training session at Ajax, the Danish midfielder impressed Ten Hag.

Tottenham Hotspur was one of United’s key rivals for this move as they wanted to have their former player back. The North London club has the added benefit of playing in the Champions League.

Even Christian Eriksen was prepared to stay in London. But, now Tottenham has distanced itself from the move, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Spurs have not pursued their original interest in the Danish playmaker and, even, Fabrizio Romano revealed, that they are currently focused on signing a center-back, striker, and right-back.

Brentford signed free agent, Eriksen in January of this year. Thomas Frank’s side finished 13th in the Premier League thanks to Dane’s consistent performances.

He is a step ahead of Bruno Fernandes in terms of technical ability and might fit in nicely with Ten Hag’s possession-based style of play. If necessary, the Dutchman may use Eriksen on the right.

It may be a wise signing for the club, especially after the departures of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata.

On the other hand, United should look for a defensive midfielder to give their attacking players more flexibility.
