As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is being seriously considered by Manchester United as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who is reportedly leaving the club.
The former PSG striker does not always start for Bayern, but he has excelled whenever he has been asked to. Despite spending only 615 minutes on the field, he has eight goals in 13 games. He scored the second in Bayern’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Inter Milan and even scored a brace against Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.
He is now a target for United and the club is reportedly very interested in signing him. His versatility and experience are reportedly admired by Erik ten Hag, and he would be a handy signing given that he might be free in the summer.
The 33-year-old is well-known to Premier League followers due to his prior tenure at Stoke. Strangely, after his tenure with the English team, he joined PSG and then moved to Germany. Ronaldo’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, thus Choupo-Moting might be brought in as a replacement. If a good offer comes through, Ronaldo might leave Old Trafford sooner if it seems like his departure will benefit both the club and himself.
However, Bayern is eager to offer him a new contract as a result of his performances, so United may have to overcome some obstacles to sign him. It might be difficult to persuade him to decline it in order to make a comeback to the Premier League given his success in the Bundesliga.
It is unclear whether United will formally express its interest in Choupo-Moting, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that they are making preparations for life without Ronaldo.
