United Eyeing Lille’s Rising Star Lucas Chevalier As De Gea’s Long-Term Successor

Manchester United is reportedly turning its attention to Ligue 1 as they search for a long-term replacement for goalkeeper David De Gea.

According to The Sun, the club is closely monitoring talented Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

The 21-year-old has been in impressive form this season and is considered one of the best up-and-coming goalkeepers in France.

His impressive contributions have played a part in Lille’s strong position in the race for a top-four finish, potentially earning him a move to Old Trafford in the upcoming summer transfer window.

United has been extensively searching for a suitable successor to De Gea and may have found their answer in Chevalier.

He showcased his abilities in French youth football before spending a loan spell at Valenciennes in Ligue 2 last season. Since returning to Lille, he has made 30 league appearances, conceding 29 goals and keeping ten clean sheets.

Considering Lille sold goalkeeper Mike Maignan to AC Milan in 2021, the French club may be hesitant to part ways with another promising goalkeeper.

Chevalier is reportedly ahead of Leeds United’s Illan Meslier in the pecking order for the French national team, indicating his potential for the future.

While the transfer fee for Chevalier is expected to be similar to Maignan’s reported fee of $16 million, the investment could pay off handsomely if the young goalkeeper fulfils his potential.
