United face a huge £300m wage bill problem if they decide to pursue Spurs star Harry Kane

According to the Daily Express, Manchester United may need to spend up to £300 million if they want to secure a five-year contract with Harry Kane.

The Tottenham striker has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as the Red Devils search for attacking reinforcements. Kane is a seasoned Premier League player who has been productive throughout his career, and Erik ten Hag is eager to add more firepower to his squad.

But if United wants to get the England captain, they will have to shell out a lot of money. Daniel Levy would demand a transfer fee of £120 million for the 29-year-old player, who was extensively linked to a move to Manchester City 18 months ago. When City came knocking, Kane was asking for a salary of £375,000 per week, but he could potentially accept even more, with a figure of £400,000 per week being bandied about.

That is prior to the addition of a signing-on fee and any bonuses, which frequently result in a player’s base salary being doubled upon the achievement of both individual and team goals.

There were rumours that United might implement a wage cap, meaning no first-team player would be paid more than £200,000 per week.

But the club is currently in contract negotiations with Marcus Rashford and is aware that such a policy would effectively put an end to their attempts to sign Harry Kane.

Kane, who has played his whole career in North London but is still without a trophy, is expected to let Tottenham know if he wants to explore other options or sit down to negotiate a new contract. When fit this season, Anthony Martial has served as United’s lone striker.

Throughout his tenure in Manchester, the Frenchman has seen ups and downs in his form. Despite being Ten Hag’s top choice right now, they must sell Martial in a cash-plus-player deal in order to sign Kane.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen is also being pursued by United should they decide not to sign Kane. This season, the Nigerian has scored 14 goals in 19 games for the Italian outfit.
