United fear Raphael Varane could join Lisandro Martinez on the sidelines

Manchester United are concerned that French centre-back Raphael Varane might miss the remainder of the season after his ankle injury against Sevilla in the Europa League.

The Frenchman missed two games for the Red Devils in all competitions after being replaced midway through the first leg of the quarterfinal.

According to the Mirror, the central defender’s ankle has undergone additional scans after the initial swelling started to go down. The outcome is not favourable.

United are worried that the World Cup champion may miss up to six weeks of play. As a result, he might miss the club’s final eight Premier League games. The club is hopeful that Varane would come back, if they participate in the FA Cup final on June 3.

Varane might be out for “a few weeks,” according to the latest information from United. But looking at his present condition it seems that the defender might not be available for the remainder of the campaign.

With players coming back from injury, manager Erik Ten Hag has been careful, and he is unlikely to take a chance with the star unless he is totally fit.

Therefore, we do not expect him to play in the final eight games of the Premier League season. Due to Lisandro Martinez’s injury, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Luke Shaw will need to step up.

Varane might be included in the matchday squad for the FA Cup final in June, but United must defeat Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley Stadium today in order for that to happen.
