David de Gea could be heading back to Spain as he confirmed his departure from Manchester United after 12 years at the club.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper’s contract expired at the end of June, and although talks had been ongoing until last week, it appears that he has made the decision to move on.
With manager Erik ten Hag apparently targeting Andre Onana from Inter Milan as the new first-choice goalkeeper, De Gea deemed it necessary to seek opportunities elsewhere. Offers from the Saudi Pro League are said to be on the table for the Spanish goalkeeper.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Sevilla are interested in signing De Gea as a potential replacement for their goalkeeper Yassine Bounou if he leaves the club.
Bounou has attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, while United were also linked with the Moroccan before opting for Onana.
The report suggests that De Gea would be a cost-effective option for Sevilla, as he is reportedly willing to significantly reduce his wage demands in order to facilitate a return to his home country.

De Gea, who is currently a free agent after United chose not to renew his contract, has been linked with various clubs, including Saudi club Al-Nassr.
However, a move to Sevilla would be a logical choice for the goalkeeper. Returning to Spain after his failed move to Real Madrid eight years ago would hold significant appeal.
Additionally, he would have the opportunity to be the first-choice goalkeeper at Sevilla, a team that will be participating in the UEFA Champions League next season after winning the Europa League in 2022/23.
If De Gea’s priorities extend beyond a large paycheck, joining Sevilla would be an excellent decision. The club is undergoing a transformation on and off the pitch, having experienced the departure of Sporting Director Monchi.

Due to strict Financial Fair Play regulations, Spanish clubs are always on the lookout for value-for-money signings, and De Gea would fit that profile.
While it remains to be seen if the move will come to fruition, the Spanish’s capabilities make him a valuable addition to a top European side, and Sevilla would make a wise choice by acquiring him.
