United growing frustrated with Chelsea’s prolonged negotiations for Mason Mount

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are growing increasingly frustrated with Chelsea over the prolonged negotiations for the transfer of midfielder Mason Mount.

Despite ongoing discussions between the two clubs, United has been unable to convince Chelsea to allow Mount’s departure.

United has made three unsuccessful bids of £40 million, £50 million, and £55 million for the 24-year-old, with Chelsea holding out for £65 million, including add-ons.

The report suggests that United’s football director, John Murtough, is unhappy with Chelsea for communicating United’s bids through the club’s dedicated correspondents in London.

Murtough is constrained by the club’s limited transfer budget, and United believes that the Blues are overvaluing Mount, especially considering he only has one year remaining on his contract.

While the 24-year-old remains the preferred target for manager Erik ten Hag, United would be open to signing any other midfield addition if they are unable to secure the services of the Chelsea midfielder.

The Red Devils reportedly have at least four other midfield targets, with Ten Hag having held video calls with several players before the end of the previous season.

The Dutch boss has identified the English star as the priority target for United. The 24-year-old’s extensive Premier League experience makes him a valuable acquisition for the club.

Mount is versatile and can play in attacking and central midfield positions, but Ten Hag sees him as a potential upgrade in the number eight role due to his work rate and creativity.

However, United has been unsuccessful in convincing Chelsea to allow the player’s transfer. The club might consider making a fourth and final bid, but they are prepared to move on if the Blues counters their proposal.

Alternatively, they could explore cheaper options from abroad. While Mount’s familiarity with the Premier League is an advantage, United needs to be mindful of their limited pre-sales budget of £120 million and cannot overspend on a single player.
