As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have the chance to sign Jeremie Frimpong early this summer as his parent club Bayer Leverkusen is prepared to bring in a replacement for the full-back.
This season, the Red Devils have consistently been linked with the Dutch right-back, and earlier in December, Fabrizio Romano stated that the player may move for €25 million.
With their limited resources, United did not make an offer in January, but they would be more interested if they needed to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the end of the season.
The Red Devils have an advantage since Leverkusen wants to sell Frimpong this summer. The Bundesliga team would rather work on an “early sale” for the former Celtic player before concentrating on signing Ivan Fresneda from Rayo Valladolid for about €15 million.
From our point of view, Frimpong would be a big improvement over Wan-Bissaka, who hasn’t been much of a threat on offence this season. Despite having outstanding defensive skills, Wan-Bissaka’s limited action in the opposing half has raised questions about how long he will remain at Old Trafford.
Diogo Dalot is without a doubt United’s right-back starter when available. Frimpong would be an ideal competitor for the Portuguese star if he were to join. Frimpong has made a significant impact in his second full season with the German club.
He has scored five goals and five assists in 26 games in all competitions. The Dutchman has alternated between the right-back and right-wing-back positions frequently. Erik ten Hag favours attacking full-backs because they are capable of making frequent overlapping runs and altering the game by providing opportunities.
Frimpong has not only been excellent for them defensively but also in the final third. He has won roughly two tackles per game while astonishingly winning 6.8 duels.
In the current market, he can be considered a bargain signing, and United has the opportunity to get him quickly.
