Injury Update

United keeper Dean Henderson might not play again for the rest of the season

According to manager Steve Cooper, Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson might not play again this year after his recent injury setback.

A small injury prevented the United loanee from returning to training last week. He hasn’t played since January because of an ankle injury.

Forest has reentered the relegation zone after a 10-game losing streak. Cooper doubts the 26-year-old will recover in time to play again with seven games left in Forest’s fight for Premier League survival.

The 26-year-old hasn’t played since January, when he injured himself while taking a goal kick at the very end of the team’s 2-0 victory over Leicester City. And now, manager Cooper is doubtful about Henderson’s return to training next week.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:

“He’s not back in training. He’s not really any closer. He’s still in the medical room, unfortunately, so we’ll see where that takes us in the next week or so.”

“I hope he will play again this season, but I don’t know, to be honest. It’s a bit inconclusive on that, so we’ll see. It’s just been ongoing. There has been a small setback.”

“The other thing with Dean is he’s a Man United player and you have to work in conjunction with them. They have been absolutely great and the communication has been really good.”

Keylor Navas joined the team on loan from PSG on transfer deadline day as a backup. He has already made 11 appearances for the team this season.

It seems that Henderson’s future is in serious doubt, and United would be open to letting the English keeper leave after his ugly interview a few months back.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see United part ways with the keeper following his words against the club. Erik ten Hag is already targeting a fresh goalkeeper to provide competition to David de Gea and he could well sign one this summer.
