Manchester United FC have been in the lookout of a young and dynamic midfielder this summer to add quality to their midfield. The Red Devils have been linked with an array of players but haven’t signed anyone yet this summer. It is now being reported by Corriere Dello Sport that United are interested in signing Italian wonder-kid Sandro Tonali from Brescia.
United have handed Nemanja Matic a long-term contract, but the veteran midfielder doesn’t have age on his side. The 32-year old Serbian is ageing and is unlikely to carry on his level of performances in the long run. Thus Solskjaer believes Tonali can make the spot his own and the 20-year old will be a long-term replacement for Nemanja Matic if he signs for Manchester United.
Corriere Dello Sport also reports that lately there was a phone call from Old Trafford, regarding Tonali’s availability this summer. Tonali has drawn a lot of attention from several big clubs, especially from Inter Milan and AC Milan. The 20-year old is one of the highest-rated defensive midfielders in the world and is reported to have a price tag of about €35m.
Tonali would be a great signing for United, but it is highly unlikely for the Italian to leave Italy. Inter Milan are front-runners for his signature and are reportedly looking to sign him on-loan with an obligation to buy next year.
