United midfielder Scott McTominay should step up in Casemiro’s absence

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro was given his second red card as Manchester United and Southampton drew 0-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.

As per Statman Dave, the Brazilian midfielder will miss the following four league games if the Red Devils decide against filing an appeal against the decision.

The Red Devils will suffer a great loss as they do not have a successor for the former Real Madrid star. Erik ten Hag will be forced to use Scott McTominay in the number six position due to his Casemiro’s unavailability.

The 26-year-old came in to replace Wout Weghorst just before the second-half as the gaffer looked for stability following the midfielder’s dismissal.

Bruno Fernandes’ presence in midfield caused the team to start the game a little off balance. McTominay entered during a challenging time and helped his team in adding defensive solidity.

The attributes of the academy graduate and Casemiro cannot be compared. But now that the latter has been on a suspension, McTominay has a fantastic opportunity to step up and show Ten Hag and the fans his true capabilities.

The Scottish midfielder has been inconsistent this season. But, after his impressive performance against Southampton, the Dutch boss might decide to start the midfielder in the upcoming matches.

He set up Facundo Pellistri for a counterattack in the closing moments of the game. He also boasted great numbers both in attack and defense.

His future with United is in question and Newcastle United are interested in signing him this summer. Casemiro won’t be available for the next four games, giving McTominay one more opportunity to win over Ten Hag and save his career at Old Trafford.
