United ready to sign Juventus attacker Federico Chiesa for a cut-price deal

According to Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United have entered the race to sign Juventus attacker Federico Chiesa, alongside Liverpool and Newcastle United.

After successfully securing the signing of goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan, United are now turning its attention towards strengthening their attacking options.

Manager Erik ten Hag has identified Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund as the priority target, but there is also interest in pursuing a deal for Juventus attacker Chiesa.

United are competing with Liverpool and Newcastle in the race to sign the Italian international, who is seeking a new challenge away from Juventus.

Last season, Chiesa was not at his best due to a long-term injury and reportedly has a strained relationship with manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Juventus aims to raise at least €100 million (£87 million) from player sales and is willing to let go of Chiesa for €50 million (£43 million) this summer.

The 25-year-old is highly regarded as one of the best forwards in Italian football. His ability to play on both wings and as a second striker makes him a versatile fit for Ten Hag’s playing style, which prioritizes fluidity in attack. Signing Chiesa would be a valuable addition for United.

However, the club should be cautious of his injury history. Last year, he suffered a significant anterior cruciate knee ligament injury, which kept him sidelined for nearly ten months.

Although he made a comeback before the World Cup, he faced further setbacks, missing seven games due to the after-effects of his long-term injury.

Despite these concerns, Chiesa finished the season strongly, contributing four goals in his final five games. When fit and available, he would undoubtedly be a top signing for United.

Nonetheless, considering the injury risk associated with him, the club should be prudent and not consider paying more than £25-30 million for his transfer.
