United recieve major blow in their pursuit of landing Milan Skriniar

Inter Milan will speak with Milan Skriniar‘s representatives amid rumours that he is interested in signing with Manchester United, according to CEO Giuseppe Marotta.

The Serie A behemoths are hoping to reach an agreement on a new deal with the Slovakian international. The current contract for the 27-year-old man expires in the summer of 2023. The Serie A powerhouses want to keep the centre back in Milan, though.

Skriniar’s name has been linked to both United and Paris Saint-Germain. However, Marotta revealed on Twitter through transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that Inter would speak with the defender this week.

The Slovak moved from Sampdoria to the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2017. And the 27-year-old quickly rose to prominence in Inter Milan’s starting lineup. Since moving to Milan, he has been among the best centre-backs in the Italian top division. Skriniar assisted his team in capturing the Scudetto in the 2020–21 season under Antonio Conte, ending an 11-year drought.

The centre-back has once again been crucial for Simone Inzaghi this season. And the Slovak was crucial to the Nerazzuri’s advancement to the round of 16 of the Champions League.

There are currently several centre-backs in the United team. Under Erik ten Hag, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have emerged as the defence’s top duo. The France international, meanwhile, has struggled with injuries throughout of his time in Manchester. And we appear unsteady when Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof join the Argentine in the backline. The Swede struggled while Martinez gave his all in the 3-1 loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Skriniar’s acquisition would thereby undoubtedly improve the Red Devils’ team. It will be interesting to watch if the defender signs a new contract with Inter.
