Manchester United FC are reportedly in the lookout of a world-class midfielder who can play in a host of positions. The Red Devils are linked to several players in the position, especially after their qualification in the Champions League next season. Reportedly, the club has rekindled their interests in Lazio’s star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who they tried to sign last season as well.
The Red Devils tried to lure the midfielder at the beginning of the season but were priced out. This season, Lazio have qualified for the Champions League but the pandemic scenario will have them reeling. The club might feel this is the right time to sell their prized possession as he has been linked with moves for several seasons now.
The Serbian international has played almost all games for Lazio in all competitions this season, which shows his robustness. In the Serie-A he has played 35 games this season, in which he has scored seven goals providing six assists also. In all competitions, he has played 41 games for Lazio and has always produced the goods for his club.
Milinkovic-Savic is a strong midfielder who can play in a holding role as well as in a box-to-box role. The 25-year old has stayed with Lazio for five years now and might look to move on elsewhere to enhance his game. But signing the versatile midfielder will not be easy because Lazio will not let him go for cheap easily.
The Serbian, if he joins the Red Devils, can take up Matic’s position and can also play in the box-to-box role. It is believed that the midfielder will cost somewhere about €90m, which might be too much to pay, even for United. The club is desperate to get some quality and depth in the midfield, especially with Champions League football next season.
The 25-year-old’s quality on and off the ball makes him one of the best young midfielders in the world. PSG and Inter Milan are also looking to secure his signature, and the Red Devils face steep competition for the Serbian. With the transfer market open, United will surely have more talks with Lazio for Milinkovic-Savic.
