Manchester United are reportedly facing competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssouf Moukoko.
The 18-year-old striker, who debuted for his first club at the age of 16, is one of the most promising young players in the world, having played 52 games in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
According to The Times, the Red Devils are keeping a close eye on the young phenomenon as they search for a new striker during the January transfer window.
The German is being pursued by a number of teams, including United. The 18-year-old’s contract expires next summer.
At Old Trafford, Cristiano Ronaldo’s abrupt departure has left a big void in United’s offensive options. Meanwhile, for Liverpool, Luis Diaz’s expected three-month knee injury has left them with fewer options up front as well. The Blues are also targeting the German wonderkid, as they have a lack of options upfront. Albanian striker Armando Broja was recently ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.
Moukoko is allegedly afraid of leaving Dortmund too soon for a team where his playing time would be decreased, as he won’t join another team to be a bench player.
According to a recent source, if Dortmund is unable to persuade Moukoko to sign a new contract—which they have so far failed to do—they will be happy to let him leave in January. The German international, who was born in Cameroon, has contributed six goals and one assist for Dortmund this year.
Moukoko was selected for Hansi Flick’s German World Cup team, but he only appeared in one match in Qatar, coming off the bench in the final minute of their 2-1 group-stage loss to Japan. Moukoko became the youngest player to represent Germany at a World Cup at the age of 18 years and three days.
It is no surprise that United is one of the teams interested in signing him as a result of his excellent finishing abilities. Moukoko might be persuaded to join the Red Devils if they can provide him enough game time. United has the ability to offer the player the best salary package, but first they must persuade Dortmund, who may be unwilling to sell until they receive the highest transfer offer.
