According to the Times, Manchester United is reportedly preparing a formal offer for Mason Mount, which they plan to present to Chelsea after the end of the season.
As per the report, talks have been initiated between both clubs regarding the transfer of the English midfielder, who has just one year remaining on his current contract.
While Chelsea wishes to retain their homegrown talent, discussions surrounding a new contract have hit a standstill in recent months.
Personal terms have already been agreed upon between Mount and United, signalling a potential move to Old Trafford in the near future.
Chelsea is said to be seeking a minimum of £60 million to sanction his departure. Manager Erik Ten Hag wants to strengthen his midfield this summer, with Mount emerging as the top choice among their list of potential midfielders.

Mount’s attacking prowess makes him a significant asset for United. The English star has scored 33 goals and provided 37 assists in over 195 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.
The 24-year-old midfielder will provide stiff competition for Bruno Fernandes and is expected to occupy the number eight role, which he previously excelled in at Stamford Bridge.
His athleticism in midfield offers a different dimension that Christian Eriksen cannot provide. While Mount’s addition to the squad would be welcomed, it is crucial for United to secure a deal at a lower transfer fee than what has been reported.

Chelsea finds themselves in a difficult position due to Mount’s rejection of contract extension offers. Spending £60 million on a player who could potentially leave as a free agent next summer may not be the most sensible move.
United’s primary focus is to sign a top-class striker this summer. Nevertheless, the opportunity to acquire a quality midfielder at a reduced cost presents a golden opportunity for the club.
