According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona defensive midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham are both still on Manchester United’s wishlist for the next summer transfer window.
De Jong remained at Barcelona this year despite intense interest from the Red Devils and claimed he never intended to leave the Spanish powerhouses. The United fans still hope that the former Ajax star will eventually leave Barcelona and move to Manchester, where he will be reunited with Ten Hag.
The general terms of a deal between United and Barcelona were agreed upon in the summer, but talks halted due to United’s refusal to pay De Jong’s wages.
Whereas. Jude Bellingham, whose contract expires in 2025, is expected to be among the most sought-after players in Europe next summer, and Dortmund will probably demand a hefty transfer fee for him.
Sources at United said they are aware they would have stiff competition from Manchester City, Liverpool, and Real Madrid for his signature.
Still, they will be in line to sign him because they expressed interest in him while he was playing for Championship team Birmingham. In 2020, Bellingham turned down offers from several Premier League teams before ultimately signing with Dortmund for a record-breaking £22.5 million sum for a 17-year-old.
United will wait until the summer to make more changes to their team instead of planning a significant overhaul in January.
There could be no notable additions expected in the January transfer window as the club just disclosed a net loss of £115.5 million for 2021–22 and an increase in net debt of £94.5 million.
