United set to target Tammy Abraham as Ronaldo’s future looks uncertain

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Roma striker Tammy Abraham as he could be a long-term successor for Cristiano Ronaldo.

It is no secret that Erik ten Hag and the Red Devils are in desperate need of a trustworthy goal scorer. The United manager has expressed a desire to use Anthony Martial and, on occasion, Marcus Rashford as his primary striker rather than the ageing Ronaldo.

United’s hunt for a talisman has reportedly led them to Abraham as a potential answer to their issue. The 24-year-old left Chelsea for Roma last year in search of consistent playing time.

Under Jose Mourinho’s leadership, Abraham has emerged as a revelation since joining the Giallorossi. In his 48 appearances in Italy’s top division, the Englishman has scored an astounding 29 goals.

The Londoner was previously cited to be happy to play in Serie A and wasn’t in a hurry to make a dramatic return to the Premier League. But according to a recent report, he appears to change his mind and is now interested in returning to England.

Rival Premier League teams Arsenal and Chelsea are also reportedly eager to sign the 24-year-old. Chelsea appears to have the upper hand if a bidding war breaks out for his services since they included a buy-back clause in the deal.

Chelsea would have the luxury of being the first option should other sides approach, even though they would have to pay more. However, United could still be an attractive destination considering the fact that the English striker would be directly placed in the starting line-up by Erik ten Hag,

Roma would suffer a sporting setback if Abraham decides to leave, but the Italian superpowers would undoubtedly profit handsomely from any sale after paying merely £34 million to sign him from the Blues.
