Toni Kroos aimed a cheeky dig at Casemiro when the Brazilian midfielder departed for Manchester United from Real Madrid last summer. However, the five-time UCL winner has now hit back at those comments by his former teammate.
In his criticism of the Premier League, Kroos stated that no English team had won an international trophy in 2022 and indicated that players simply move to the UK in order to earn more money.
In addition, he mentioned Casemiro, confessing that he was shocked and unhappy to know the fact that his world-class teammate was leaving the Bernabeu for Old Trafford.
Kroos claimed in the summer that “the Premier League has not won an international crown this year.” “Despite the fact that English clubs haven’t consistently won everything, television revenue in England has been much higher for years.
However, Casemiro has been nothing short of a revelation for the Red Devils. He has been Erik ten Hag’s best signing and his presence in the midfield has suddenly made it one of the strongest positions in the current United squad.
The presence of Casemiro has also uplifted players like Fred and Bruno Fernandes’s performances this season. The former Real Madrid midfield general was asked about the early ‘money-making’ comments aimed at him. As reported by the Mirror, he said :
“Those who think that don’t know me. I’m not like that. If it was for money, then I could have left four or five years ago. The club always acted well with me. It was my decision. It was simply the feeling that my cycle here had come to an end. This was clear to me.”
But now, after six months, Kroos’ words do highlight the fact that he wanted his former teammate to stay. Casemiro’s departure has hurt Madrid’s stability in the centre of the field.
The German wasn’t helping his former teammate out for any other purpose save the fact that he was aware the Brazilian would leave Real Madrid with a gaping hole in the midfield region.
Casemiro is the heart of Ten Hag’s revamped Red Devils, who are in the running to win four trophies this season. The Brazilian performed admirably for United on Thursday night as they defeated Barcelona in the Europa League knock-out match to advance to a round of 16.
The Red Devils would want another masterclass performance by the Brazilian ahead of the tricky Carabao Cup final match against Newcastle United.
Kroos was keen to point out that an English team hadn’t won a trophy in 2022, but Casemiro could now give a befitting reply by lifting his first silverware at Wembley tonight.
