United star Harry Maguire could be allowed to join a Serie A club this summer

Many Serie A teams have expressed interest in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire and the centre-back is also said to be keen to move to an Italian team.

The captain has endured a barrage of criticism for his performances while playing at Old Trafford, particularly the mistake that gifted Sevilla the opening goal in their Europa League match on Thursday.

According to The Manchester Evening News, Erik ten Hag may put Harry Maguire up for sale this summer because he anticipates more departures than arrivals. During the March international break, Victor Lindelof also said that he will evaluate his options at the end of the current season.

United are suffering from a defensive crisis due to injuries to key players, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. And now even Maguire is suspended for Sunday’s FA Cup semifinal match against Brighton at Wembley.

Club captain Maguire is reportedly open to the prospect of moving to Serie A. Chris Smalling and Fikayo Tomori, two English centre-backs who moved to Italy, have both achieved success and the United star can follow the same path.

According to reports, the 30-year-old has drawn interest from Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan, though only on loan given his high salary. But, United could prefer a sale as they work to adhere to Financial Fair Play regulations after spending £225 million last summer.

United might make room for 16 more players to leave. It states that offers for Anthony Martial, Lindelof, Scott McTominay, Fred, Donny van de Beek, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be taken into consideration.

United also is willing to let Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe’s contracts expire at the end of the season. Eric Bailly and Dean Henderson could also suffer the axe this summer. Alex Telles and Brandon Williams could be moving out permanently as well.

Meanwhile, loan players like Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst could make their move permanent only if they continue to show their class at Old Trafford.
