According to The Sun, Leicester City has expressed interest in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire this summer.
The England international is now a backup defender for the Red Devils this season after falling behind the pecking order.
Maguire is still a regular player for the national team, but he will need more playing time to hold onto his spot before Euro 2024 the following year. According to recent reports, Brendan Rodgers, the manager of the Foxes, wants to re-sign Maguire on a season-long loan this summer to strengthen his defence.
If the Foxes agree to pay a fair loan fee and cover his entire weekly salary, United might be open to the idea of sending him on loan. The former Leicester City star has played less than 1,200 minutes for United this season. Since the 4-0 thrashing at Brentford in August, he has frequently served as the bench player.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, United intends to sign another centre-back, which should only lessen Maguire’s presence in the starting XI.
Hence, United won’t be surprised if he pushes for a departure this summer; given his prior links with the Foxes, they might be the ideal fit for him.
The €25 million rated defender would quickly adjust at his new club. He would be a great improvement in comparison to their present centre-back options. The Foxes’ position in the top division may determine whether a transfer happens. With the late 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace, they are currently ranked 18th in the standings.
They are only one point behind Everton in the 17th position, but their recent form has been awful. Maguire might be persuaded to rejoin them in the summer if they successfully avoid the relegation drop.
