Lisandro Martinez appeared to be in pain after going to the ground against Sevilla in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal on Thursday.
The fans were afraid of his injury and the way it could impact the club. Now, the club’s official website had confirmed the news that Martinez’s fractured metatarsal bone in his foot will keep him out of action for the remainder of the season.
The Premier League powerhouses stated that Raphael Varane, his defensive partner, “is expected to be out for a few weeks.” Due to a foot injury, the former Real Madrid defender was substituted against Sevilla at halftime.
Under Erik ten Hag, Varane and Martinez had established a strong defensive partnership. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have spent the majority of the season warming the bench due to their performances.
The United supporters will hope that Varane will recover from his injury. In addition to competing in the FA Cup and Europa League, they hope to finish in the top four in the Premier League.
The World Cup champions’ long-term injury will severely hamper United’s chances of finishing the season on a strong note. Erik Ten Hag wants his centre-backs to be in-form and at ease handling the ball.
The onus is on Maguire and Lindelof to prove they are talented enough to remain at Old Trafford for the upcoming season despite their difficulties with their performances.
