Manchester United FC have been in the lookout of a left-footed left-back this summer transfer window, because of Shaw’s constant injury woes. The Red Devils have seen their target Ben Chilwell join Chelsea yesterday and are now looking elsewhere. It is now being reported by The Mirror that United have been linked with the likes of Sergio Reguillon, who Real Madrid are looking to sell.
Luke Shaw played well last season but was injured for parts of the season, meaning Brandon Williams had to put a shift in. Williams played his breakout season and was good for most parts of the season. But his inexperience cost United a place in the final of the Europa League, which was the club’s last hope for silverware.
On the other hand, Reguillon was on-loan at Sevilla, after former Real Madrid boss Lopetegui wanted him at Seville. The left-back has had a stellar season in La Liga and the Europa League and has turned into one of the best left-backs in the world. It has also been reported by Marca that Real Madrid will be happy to sell Reguillon at about €20-25m.
United should be all over this deal, looking at the value for money on offer. Reguillon would surely transform the United side with Shaw being an understudy to him. This will also free up Brandon Williams, who will be able to challenge for his original position, right-back.
