United to pay Harry Maguire millions as compensation package to join West Ham

Harry Maguire is on the verge of receiving a significant compensation package from Manchester United as he prepares for his upcoming transfer to West Ham.

Although West Ham’s initial bid of £20 million was turned down, a second offer of £30 million has been accepted by both sides.

According to recent reports, negotiating personal terms is expected to proceed smoothly, with Maguire poised to become a teammate of fellow England international James Ward-Prowse as they both make a move to the London Stadium.

As reported by The Sun, it appears that Maguire is in the process of accepting a substantial reduction in his wages as part of his move to West Ham.

With two years remaining on his United contract, he was previously earning a weekly wage of £190,000.

Upon joining West Ham, his earnings will decrease to £120,000 per week. Interestingly, there are discussions about the possibility of Maguire becoming the permanent captain of the Hammers.

However, to facilitate this transfer, it is stated that United are providing the centre-back with a severance payment of £6 million to offset the reduction in his future wages.

Maguire made headlines as the most expensive defender globally when he moved to Old Trafford from Leicester City for a record £80 million in 2019.

Notably, he took on the role of captain during his initial season with the club following Ashley Young’s departure from Inter Milan.

During Erik ten Hag’s inaugural season as the manager, Maguire faced difficulties in securing regular playing time and spent considerable periods out of the starting lineup.

Notably, he was also stripped of his captaincy, which was taken over by Bruno Fernandes during the preseason.

Despite not actively pursuing a departure and showing a willingness to compete for his spot, Maguire has come to terms with the fact that his tenure at Old Trafford is approaching its end.

West Ham had shown interest in acquiring another United player, Scott McTominay, but it seems that this transfer is becoming less likely, especially considering the ongoing negotiations involving Fred, who is reportedly being pursued by Turkish club Fenerbahce.

On the other hand, the Red Devils are actively seeking a replacement for Maguire and have earmarked Benjamin Pavard, Jean Clair Todibo, and Edmond Tapsoba as their primary targets for this role.
