Manchester United is reportedly interested in signing goalkeeper Jack Butland on a permanent basis, potentially derailing Rangers’ pursuit of the player, according to the Scottish Sun.
Butland, who is currently on loan from Crystal Palace, joined United in January after Martin Dubravka was recalled by Newcastle United.
The English goalkeeper’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and Rangers have expressed interest in bringing him to the Scottish Premiership. However, United is willing to double the salary offer made by Rangers in an effort to retain Butland.
While Rangers are offering guaranteed first-team football and matching Butland’s current wages at Crystal Palace, United’s potential appeal lies in the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League and the potential for higher earnings despite being a backup goalkeeper.

The Red Devils are in search of a new goalkeeper to challenge David de Gea, although their manager, Erik ten Hag, is reportedly interested in an experienced third-choice option.
Since joining the Old Trafford side in January, Butland has not yet made an appearance for the club and is unlikely to do so as they aim for a top-four finish.
He would be hoping to win his second title against Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
