Donny Van de Beek made his Manchester United debut last night, but it didn’t go according to plan for the Dutch midfielder. United lost their first game of the Premier League season against Crystal Palace, with a score-line of 1-3. In his latest talk with MUTV, the Dutchman has talked about what went wrong for the Red Devils as they lost their opening game of the Premier League season.
The Red Devils had a torrid start to the season, as they produced a lacklustre performance against the Eagles. Almost all the United players looked rusty and were visibly out of shape as they trained for only about a week before the Premier League. Van de Beek was introduced in the latter stages of the game and came up with a goal but in vain.
In his post-match interview, Van de Beek said: “First match for the club, a day you want to win. It doesn’t matter how, you want to win and I’m really disappointed that we lost 3-1 at home, that’s really bad.” The Dutch midfielder is a passionate footballer and he was visibly upset while he was being interviewed about United’s loss.
He also added that “In the week of training we did really well, we trained good so my feeling was really positive. But today we played too slowly, too long with the ball and I think against an opponent like Crystal Palace you need to speed up the game to create something. That was not good enough.”
United need to be way better than what they were against Palace if they want to have any chance of winning silverware this season and are certainly in need of further reinforcements to the current first-team squad at Solskjaer’s disposal at Old Trafford.
