While speaking to Tuttosport, former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has compared Matthijs de Ligt to his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Matthijs de Ligt has been one of the promising superstars who has now joined Juventus and has been playing regularly for the team. Last season, both De Ligt and Cristiano Ronaldo played together for Juventus before the legendary striker moved to Manchester United.
Van der Sar who once played with Cristiano Ronaldo during Alex Furguson’s golden era finds a similar comparison between De Ligt and Ronaldo.
He said:
” He is a top player with a great mentality. He works hard to improve himself. I haven’t seen him train in two and a half years, but in his time with us, he always reminded me of the young Cristiano Ronaldo, who I played with at Manchester United. If De Ligt was not on the field early in the morning, he could be found in the gym.”
Cristiano Ronaldo has been the greatest motivator for a number of young players. Kylian Mbappe himself has said that he loves Cristiano Ronaldo and his style of play more than any other player. He has been his idol since childhood.
