Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof stated that despite rumours of a possible takeover before the season ends, the club’s performances should remain the main focus.
There have already been takeover bids for United announced by Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and there will be more over the next few weeks.
The Glazers have retained the Raine Group to serve as their financial advisors, but it is unclear if they will be willing to back out if their asking price is fully satisfied. In the middle of this, Lindelof has stated that he is unconcerned by the circumstance and added that his teammates shouldn’t be diverted by what is happening at the club.
The Swedish centre-back also said that their performances should be the region of the main focus. As reported by The Metro, he said:
“I haven’t given that a thought, you know, especially now with the schedule. We can’t think about that. We just have to think about the games and prepare the best that we can. Yeah, I haven’t thought about that. Whatever happens, happens, but we’re just focusing on our performances.”
United had a rough start to the season, but under manager Erik ten Hag, they have made great progress. As of right now, they are the only top-flight English team with a chance to win four competitions.
The Red Devils recently reduced their deficit to the Premier League’s top team to only five points, giving them a chance to advance to the round of 16 of the Europa League in the coming midweek.
After a dramatic 2-2 draw in the first leg of the elimination play-off against Barcelona, United should be favourites to defeat the Catalan giants on Thursday given their home advantage.
They can break their six-year trophy drought on Sunday by defeating Newcastle United at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final. They will also face West Ham United in the FA Cup’s fifth round before Liverpool hosts them at Anfield in a league encounter. The players must avoid being distracted by the takeover rumours as United is about to enter a key era.
