Napoli star Victor Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda has hit back at rumours claiming a swap deal between United and the Italian club.
The 23-year-old was a target for the Red Devils but the deal was off as the Italian club didn’t want to sell their star asset. However, the club has always been linked to several strikers due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s uncertain future at the club.
The Portuguese striker’s agent, Jorge Mendes has been on the lookout for a new club for his client and it was reported that he is trying to orchestrate a swap deal between Napoli and United for strikers, Osimhen and Ronaldo.
The African star is committed to the Italian side and his agent has revealed that he is fully focused on his career in Serie A. These words would be enough to pour cold water on those rumours.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Osimhen’s agent said:
“No negotiations in progress, no swaps. Victor Osimhen is a Napoli player and wants to play the Champions League with Napoli after winning it on the pitch with pride together with the coach and his teammates.”
Erik ten Hag wants to add more attacking reinforcements and has set his sights on Antony. However, Ronaldo’s status at the club has not yet been resolved.
United could move for a striker even if the 37-year-old prefers to stay. Anthony Martial’s fitness issues persist and it is difficult for him to play every weekend.
Ronaldo wouldn’t be able to play every match and the club needs to sign a striker so that they can rotate them as per their need. Currently, PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo has the highest chance of moving to Old Trafford before the deadline day.
