Napoli striker Victor Osimhen’s agent has downplayed rumours that the Nigerian star would soon depart the Italian club amid interest from Manchester United.
The 23-year-old has performed admirably for the Blues since joining from Lille in 2020, appearing for the team 70 times in all competitions and contributing 32 goals and 10 assists.
In 32 appearances last season, the forward scored 18 goals and added six assists, and there was much discussion about his future during the summer transfer window. The Nigerian was highly linked to both Manchester United and Arsenal, and it is thought that they are still keen on signing him in the near future.
However, according to Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda, his client never came close to departing during the most recent market and does not have any ambitions to move on to greener pastures.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:
“We haven’t found out now that Osimhen is the subject of interest from so many teams, but things are done in three: who sells, who buys and the player. I was immediately clear this summer because I knew there would be a lot of news coming out from those who had other interests perhaps. But I, the boy and Napoli had very clear ideas.”
Osimhen still has three more years left on his deal with Naples, and he has started this season off in excellent fashion, scoring four goals and dishing out one assist in eight games.
In six Serie A games, the forward managed three goals and one assist, while in two Champions League matches, he scored once. With Cristiano Ronaldo poised to leave the club on a free transfer, United will likely be looking for a new centre-forward next summer. Gabriel Jesus was signed by Arsenal over the summer, but the Gunners are reportedly still trying to improve their attacking options as they want to compete for major titles.
Osimhen recently missed a few games for Napoli due to a muscular issue, but he made a comeback last week against Ajax, scoring in his team’s 4-2 victory, and then scored again on Sunday against Bologna.
