As reported by The Telegraph, Watford is looking forward to signing young Manchester United star Facundo Pellistri on a loan deal in January.
Watford manager Slaven Bilic reportedly wants to sign Pellistri in order to bolster his squad.
The 21-year-old made his long-awaited debut in the 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic in yesterday’s Carabao Cup quarterfinals. Manager Erik ten Hag handed him his debut off the bench during the game’s final six minutes.
By contributing to the first of Marcus Rashford’s two goals, Pellistri had an immediate impact. He also took part in a number of other attacking moves. The Uruguayan starlet moved from Penarol to United in a £9 million move in October 2020. Anthony Elanga, who has struggled this season, will no longer be able to compete with Pellistri due to his immediate impact.
Pellistri might be a respectable backup to Antony, and Ten Hag may prefer to keep him.
In Antony’s absence, Ten Hag has played Bruno Fernandes or Marcus Rashford at the right wing, but neither player is at their best in that position.
Meanwhile, in Jadon Sancho’s absence, Pellistri may have more opportunities as the English star continues to struggle to regain his mental and physical health.
The Uruguayan likes to cut inside to create opportunities and prefers to start on the right flank. In addition to having a quick burst of pace, he can dribble past defenders with ease. The manager should now assess whether the youngster possesses the qualities necessary to succeed at the Theater of Dreams.
