According to the Mirror, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford received some encouraging words from former striker Wayne Rooney.
On Tuesday, the English star matched the amazing goal-scoring feat once achieved by Rooney. With two goals in a 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Charlton Athletic, Rashford has now scored in eight straight home games for United.
The last time a United player did this was when Rooney did it between January and March of the 2009–10 season, a year in which the former England captain scored 34 goals for his team across all competitions.
Following the game on Tuesday night, Rashford posted a photo of him and Rooney to celebrate their joint accomplishment. Rooney commented on the post, reading: “Class, @MarcusRashford. Keep it going.”

Rashford’s progress is great to watch after considerable complaints about his performance throughout United’s disastrous 21–22 season. He has scored 108 goals for the Red Devils, but at the age of 25, he still has plenty of time to catch Rooney’s record if he stays at Old Trafford for a long time.
With 15 goals already this year across all competitions, Rashford is on track to surpass his previous personal best of 22 goals in a season, which he accomplished back in 2019–20. The forward started the eight-goal streak in the 3-0 Europa League victory over FC Sheriff. Later, he scored against West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, and Bournemouth in home league games.
He also scored in matches against Aston Villa, Burnley, and Charlton in the Carabao Cup and Everton in the FA Cup.
