Wayne Rooney rejected the chance to work under Erik Ten Hag

Wayne Rooney was approached by the United board to convince him to join Erik Ten Hag’s backroom team at Manchester United.

Despite being relegated from the Championship, United’s all-time leading goalscorer has done an amazing job with Derby County. After being hit with a 21-point deduction, his team fought valiantly to avoid relegation to League One.

According to The Athletic, Rooney informed United that he would only leave Derby County if he is signed as a manager of the club.

After performing well from his brief stint as manager at Pride Park Stadium, Rooney will have no shortage of admirers. His man-management has been outstanding, and the fact that he is beloved by Derby County fans speaks volumes.

So far, we know that Mitchell Van der Gaag, formerly of Ajax, will join Ten Hag as an assistant coach, and that Steve McClaren is close to returning to Old Trafford.

Robin van Persie could have returned to the club. But reports suggest he has also rejected a move to Old Trafford. Revolution seems to be the word surrounding United right now, but as fans, we need to see it come from the top.

It’s currently hard to see Wayne Rooney coming to his former club, as he has some unfinished business at Derby County. But a future move can’t be ignored.
