Wayne Rooney has been quite impressed with Erik ten Hag’s influence at Manchester United before what may be the Dutchman’s first title at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag will lead United against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday at Wembley with the goal of ending the team’s six-year trophy drought.
Along with leading the team into the last-16 of the Europa League following Thursday’s convincing victory over Barcelona, the Dutchman’s team is also playing in the FA Cup and just five points off the top of the Premier League heading into this weekend.
Following United’s problems under managers like Ralf Rangnick, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Jose Mourinho, it has been tremendous progress for the former Ajax manager.
Rooney is ecstatic about what he has observed at his former team and claims that the players are responding favourably to Ten Hag’s coaching style.
As reported by The Mirror, the former United striker said:
“He’s exactly what Manchester United have needed for a few years now. I’ve been down to the training ground quite a few times, especially in the [MLS] off-season when I was back home in England, and spoke to quite a few of the players.”
“I know the players are enjoying working under him, which is always important, but he demands a lot of his players. I think he’s changed the mindset and the confidence and belief of the players, that they’re actually a good team, and I think people are starting to see that this season and they’re in a good position.”
The Red Devils are currently active in all four major competitions and are on the verge of winning at least one silverware this season.
Ten Hag’s side was impressive in the comeback win against the Blaugrana and they will be motivated to play with confidence against their next opponents, Real Betis in the round of 16 matches.
Meanwhile, United will be facing a tricky task at Wembley as they will be locking horns with Eddie Howe’s Magpies on Sunday.
