West Ham United have not renewed their pursuit of Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, as clarified by The Telegraph’s Jason Burt.
Earlier this month, there was a verbal agreement between the Red Devils and West Ham for Maguire’s transfer at a fee of £30 million, but the deal ultimately fell through.
Maguire was willing to take a £70,000 reduction in his weekly wages; however, he requested significant compensation from United in return for his acceptance of the pay cut.
The Red Devils offered the English star £6 million as compensation for leaving the club, but Maguire was seeking a more substantial fee of £15 million.
Consequently, West Ham opted to sign Konstantinos Mavropanos from Stuttgart. However, recent reports suggested that the Hammers had reopened talks with Maguire.

The Telegraph’s Jason Burt has now refuted these rumours. Although there was communication between the clubs, West Ham are not actively seeking a centre-back at the moment.
Meanwhile, United are actively looking to reinforce their central defence before the transfer deadline and have shown interest in signing Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice.
Todibo has already had discussions with manager Erik ten Hag and seems enthusiastic about the idea of playing for a prestigious club like United. However, as things stand, a transfer seems improbable because Maguire looks set to remain at the club.
There were recent reports suggesting that West Ham might make a slightly improved offer for Maguire, which would enable United to provide the defender with a higher compensation package.

However, it seems this is not the case. Unless there is a late surge of interest, the defender will stay with United, which would directly affect their plans to sign Todibo.
Due to Financial Fair Play constraints, United cannot afford to sign Todibo, who is valued at £34 million, unless Maguire departs for another club, which currently appears unlikely.
