West Ham United vs Manchester United: Player Ratings

Manchester United secured all three points against West Ham United and the match was filled with individual brilliance.

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jess Lingard handed a 2-1 win and not to forget David De Gea’s fantastic last-minute penalty save. They were bright performances by many United players as they showed great resiliency to make a come-back after being one goal down.

Let’s rate the players according to their performances:

David de Gea – 7

Made a decent save with his feet to deny Jarrod Bowen, despite the fact that he couldn’t do much to keep out the first goal after a heavy deflection through Varane. He also created the game’s most important save to deny Mark Noble’s last-minute penalty save.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6

After receiving a harsh red card for his tackle against BSC Young Boys, he made it for that punishment by putting in a decent performance against West Ham. He did trouble the Hammers with his quick runs but needs to bring in more attacking quality in his game.

Raphael Varane – 7

Was looking more comfortable in comparison to Maguire, but was pretty solid throughout the match. Made a vital block to prevent Bowen from scoring. Was unlucky that the Hammer’s goal was scored after getting deflected through his back.

Harry Maguire – 6

He was again present at the core of United’s defence and had the usual job of commanding the back-line. He won all the aerial duels pretty comfortably and had a good game. But there were moments in which he hesitated while handling the ball at the back and could have put the team into danger.

Luke Shaw – 7

The 26-year-old was constantly troublingWest Ham defenders from the left-flank by his clever runs and long crosses. He will be relieved that his handball didn’t gift a point to West Ham.

Scott McTominay – 5

After being injured for a while, he made a quick return but looked extremely slow throughout the game. Had a very nervy first half although he did provide a great pass to Ronaldo, he himself was very slow and needs to work on himself.

Fred – 5

Like his midfield partner, it was another slow and shaggy performance from the Brazilian midfielder. It’s been a habit of giving low ratings to this player and that is the reason we want to see a new CDM entering the gates of Old Trafford as soon as possible.

Greenwood – 6

Wasn’t at his best, yet had his hand in some quick attacking movements. Provided some good passes to Ronaldo.

Bruno Fernandes – 8

He will never get anything less than 8, that’s what we think so. Was at his best again and provided a beautiful cross to Cristiano Ronaldo which he converted pretty well. He then hit a cracking volley through a Luke Shaw corner and only a great save for Fabianski denied it from hitting the back of the net.

Paul Pogba – 6

Had little role to play as he was struggling after getting injured in the first half. Did provide some neat passing but had to be substituted in the second half due to fitness concerns.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 7

This man never fails to enter the scoresheet. He did it again by scoring his fourth goal in just 3 matches. Showed great intent throughout the match, played the full 90 mins, made clever runs into the box, made space for his teammates to attack, and also scored via a Bruno Fernandes pinpoint cross. He is never tired of scoring.

Subs:

Jadon Sancho – 6

A decent performance by the new signing. Didn’t provide any magic moments that he usually does. We know that he will soon be back at his best and will start scoring goals.

Jesse Lingard – 8

Many thought that Lingard will not be playing a part against Hammers after his costly mistake against BSC Young Boys. But he was given the chance and Solksjaer had faith in his midfielder which he repaid. Scored after hitting a wonderful curling effort and reminded the Hammers that they made a great mistake of not signing him.
