Manchester United FC is the biggest club in England and one of the world’s best with 20 league titles. But with their last league title coming in the 2012/13 season, it is high time for United to get back to winning ways. The club has been in shambles after the departure of Sir Alex and is looking for the light at the end of the tunnel.
Sir Alex Ferguson is arguably the best manager the world has ever seen as he managed United from 1986 to 2013. In that time, Sir Alex took the Red Devils to new heights as the club won 13 Premier League titles. The record is unparalleled and is supported by the fact that second-highest Premier League winning side is Chelsea with 5.
Sir Alex left the club after the end of the 2012/13 season, giving Manchester United its elusive 20th league title. Due to his enigmatic personality and the huge legacy he left behind, it is reported that Ferguson was left to choose his successor. He chose David Moyes, who has managing Everton at that time, as his successor at the helm.
It’s been more than seven years of Sir Alex’s departure and the club hasn’t found a suitable replacement. In the meanwhile, the club has changed 3 managers and is now relying on current manager Solskjaer to bring back the success. Solskjaer was one of Ferguson’s favourite players and surely knows how the club works and what it takes to succeed at Manchester United.
Solskjaer was appointed as interim manager of United, when the club sacked Mourinho in December 2018. But, with 14 wins out of 19 games, Solskjaer was handed the managerial position on a permanent basis. He has brought back the attacking philosophy at United and finally, the club seems to be in good hands.
Since his arrival at the helm, Solskjaer has been very vocal about what he wants to achieve with the club and how. In his first summer transfer window as United boss, the Norwegian has made clear the type of players he wants in the club. United have got Maguire, Wan Bissaka, Daniel James, Ighalo, and Bruno Fernandes since Ole has come in, and are doing a great job.
United will have one of their lowest points tally in the league, this season, but are still fighting for a top-4 finish. Not just that, the Red Devils are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and are placed well in the Europa League. Manchester United are currently on a 14-match unbeaten streak and look difficult to stop.
United finally look like a force they were used to be, with players performing well and the board backing the manager. With the likes of Rashford, Martial, Pogba, and Fernandes, the club might finally reach its full potential. Even defensively, with Maguire, Wan Bisakka and Luke Shaw, United look better than they have ever been in the recent past.
Ole has also trusted in the youth academy of Manchester United and has given chances to academy prospects. Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams have heavily featured for United this season. He is also keen on the development of the likes of Garner, Laird, Chong, Mengi, and Mejbri.
One more thing that Solskjaer has been able to do that his predecessors after Sir Alex couldn’t, is the removal of deadwood. Ole has been ruthless and has shown the exit doors to players to h thought weren’t good enough for United. He has also sold players who didn’t believe in his philosophy and has sold Fellaini, Lukaku, Herrera and Young.
Lukaku was sold to Inter Milan and wasn’t replaced with another striker, which caused a lot of uproars. But, Solskjaer’s faith in Rashford, Martial, and Greenwood has paid off, as the three have scored a combined 50 goals this season. Bruno has completely revitalized the team and his partnership with Pogba has the potential to be a world-class partnership.
With United linked to some good players in the summer, and no notable exits, the team is only going to get stronger. Ole’s vision of United finally seems to take shape as the Red Devils look to get back to their usual best. The future for United looks good if Ole is backed by the board, and the players give their all for the badge.
