Manchester United FC have ended their season with the defeat against Sevilla, in the semi-final of the Europa League. United have had a relatively good season, considering their record in the post-Ferguson era in the Premier League and other cup tournaments. In what was Solskjaer’s first full season, United finished third in the Premier League and reached the semi-finals of three cup competitions.
The Red Devils reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League. United have surely improved as a team from last season, even with several injuries this season. Manchester United have had some standout performers this season who have played better than the rest of the players throughout the long season.

At the beginning of last season, Lukaku was sold to Inter Milan, and Martial was given back his favourite No.9 shirt. The Frenchman surely responded instantly, as he scored against Chelsea in United’s first game of the Premier League season. He has been United’s joint-top goalscorer in the Premier League and all competitions combined with 23 goals this season.
Anthony Martial has played 48 games this season in all competitions in which he has a goal-contribution of 35. This has been Martial’s best season in his professional career and the French striker shows no signs of stopping. He also scored the first hat-trick any Manchester United player has scored after Van Persie did in the 2012/13 season.
Martial has scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season and has formed a great striker partnership with Marcus Rashford. He has improved several aspects in his game including his work-rate, goalscoring, hold-up game and link-up play.
Arguably the best player in the Manchester United squad, Bruno Fernandes changed the fate of the Red Devils when he joined in January. The Portuguese attacking midfielder lifted the mood of the entire United squad and added depth and quality to the mediocre midfield. He was one of the main reasons for the team’s 19-game unbeaten run which helped United finish third in the league table.
In the Premier League, Fernandes played 14 games in which he scored eight goals and provided seven assists and became the club’s highest goal-provider this season. Fernandes also won the Premier League Player of the Month in his first couple of months at Old Trafford. In all competitions, Fernandes has played 22 games for United, in which he has scored 12 goals and has provided eight assists.
The 25-year old has been a revelation in the Premier League and has added a breath of fresh air to the squad. Since his arrival, United have lost only two games, and it shows the impact Fernandes has had on the side.
Aaron Wan Bissaka was another signing United made in the last summer transfer window, to strengthen the defence. Wan Bissaka walked into the United side due to the lack of quality full-back and made the right-back spot his own. The 22-year old has added much-needed defensive solidity at the back for United as the Red Devils finished as the third-least goal-conceding side in the league.
The Englishman ended the Premier League season with the highest successful tackles as he played 35 games in the league last season. Wan Bissaka has played 46 games for the Red Devils last season and has been one of the main reasons for their defensive solidity. The full-back has surely lived up to the expectations at Old Trafford and is one of the best defensive full-backs in the world.
