Anthony Martial has had a tough start to the season, especially in the Premier League after his red card against Tottenham. Goals have been hard to come by for the Frenchman despite him being the top scorer for the club last season. In his recent interview, Solskjaer has provided an update on why Martial didn’t feature against Southampton in the Premier League game at Saint Mary’s Stadium.
The mercurial Frenchman has found it very difficult this season at Manchester United whereas he has seen Rashford and Bruno Fernandes scoring loads of goals. Martial has been heavily criticized again for his lack of goals this season. The Manchester United No.9 was not a part of the United squad against Southampton and Solskjaer gives an update about Martial.
In the interview, Solskjaer said: “Anthony fell ill overnight so he’s in the hotel by himself, poor lad. So that’s the reason Ant isn’t playing.” Without Martial, Rashford and Greenwood have started as the front-two for Manchester United. It will be interesting to see how both of them play Greenwood has also had a tough start to the season.
Manchester United rely heavily on Martial’s hold up and link up play, and it will be interesting to see how United do without him. Greenwood and Rashford haven’t played well as a duo as none of the forward has the ability to hold the ball up.
