Why Manchester United have not signed any player this January

The January transfer window will be closed after eight days and Manchester United has not made any big piece of business till now.

Many have questioned the manager, the club authority, and also the club directors for failing to bring in players that are needed to strengthen the team for the coming 4-5 months.

February and March will be two tough months for Manchester United with teams like Tottenham, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Atletico Madrid (2 games) waiting to play against us.

Whether this team will be able to handle the pressure and deliver a top-four finish this season seems doubtful and that is why one or two new faces were needed to freshen up the fatigue-driven team. But now the exact reason behind the club not signing any players this January has been revealed by Jonathan Shrager.

The journalist said via his official Twitter account: Whilst Manchester United is monitoring players (including defensive midfielders) during the January transfer window, signing someone this month is rendered more difficult by Rangnick’s insistence on ensuring that an incoming player will also fit the criteria for the next manager. ”

If this reason holds true then the United fans won’t mind it too much as the manager has been thinking for the long-term. But even though we sign a new manager this summer, a new defensive midfielder is a must.

Any manager will likely observe that the midfield position is left exposed due to a lack of quality players.

Fred had been brilliant in the last couple of games with three assists in three games but he had been largely inconsistent. Even though he creates something in attack, his defensive output is not up to the mark.

Scott McTominay has been playing as a No.8 in recent games and he has been given the responsibility to run forward and play direct passes. He has been threatening the opposition defenders with his long-range shots and box-to-box play but again he has been facing the same issues like that of Fred.

Nemanja Matic has left his prime years behind him and now he is been deemed very slow while defending. The club needs to welcome a new defensive midfielder, whether it’s this month or after five months.

Talents like Amadou Haidara, Denis Zakaria, and Declan Rice have been linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
