Marcus Rashford’s disappointing campaign for Manchester United has cost him his place in the England national team for the upcoming European Championships.
As revealed by The Athletic, the Mancunian is not called up by Gareth Southgate after the forward scored only eight times for the Red Devils throughout the season.
“Marcus Rashford has not been included in England’s squad for Euro 2024,” David Ornstein wrote in what will be a huge blow to the 26-year-old.
“Gareth Southgate will confirm an expanded preliminary squad for the tournament in Germany at 2pm BST this afternoon before cutting it to 26 players ahead of the UEFA deadline on June 7.”
Rashford misses the Euro cut
Rashford, who had made his debut back in 2016, has won 60 caps for the Three Lions, scoring 17 goals.
After a career-best display for his boyhood club last season in which he scored 30 times in all competitions, United boss Erik ten Hag must have felt the Englishman would keep performing in the same vein.
Rashford had earned a brand-new lucrative five-year deal based on the form he exhibited in the 21/22 campaign.

But that was not to be. More importantly, apart from his poor on-field displays, his off-field exploits garnered a lot of unwanted attention, something which did not please his club and national team boss.
Rashford was caught partying after a Manchester derby defeat while he called in sick after going on a 12-hour drinking spree, with Southgate warning him of the consequences of not getting his act straight.
Poor season for Rashford
And those consequences have now revealed themselves with Rashford missing out despite his strong form for his country. The United academy graduate had scored thrice in the World Cup at Qatar.
But his form since has taken a sharp nosedive with two goals in his last 10 appearances.
His future at United is also uncertain with INEOS opening to move him on. The player is said to have held a meeting with the owners in a bid to save his career.
Luke Shaw is likely to get called up in a bid to prove his fitness while Harry Maguire also remains a doubt.
