Manchester United FC manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eyeing a move for Leicester City FC’s star midfielder Wilfred Ndidi in the summer as Solskjaer is of the opinion that the Nigerian holding midfielder could be a great replacement for the ageing Nemanja Matic at Old Trafford.
Ndidi has excelled for Leicester City FC since signing for them in 2017 from Belgian side Genk. He has been an integral part of the revamped Leicester squad which has performed exceptionally well this season, with the 2015-16 shock Premier League winners now occupying the third place in the league table and are on course to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
After reports had emerged that the Red Devils were looking forward to signing Dutch international Donny van de Beek from Eridvise champions Ajax, it was made clear by Ajax CEO and former Manchester United FC goalkeeper Edwin van der Saar that Manchester United FC would have to compete for Van de Beek’s signature with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Instead, Solskjaer has known to change his target midfield signing to the 23-year old Ndidi, who has plenty of experience of playing in the Premier League and has shown his worth by adapting to English football fairly quickly.
Ndidi has proved himself to be a worthy successor to World-Cup winning midfielder N’Golo Kante at Leicester City after the French international joined Chelsea FC.
Kante’s absence has not hurt the Foxes at all with Ndidi stepping up his game and putting in an impressive run of performances in the holding midfield role for his side. With Nemanja Matic nearing the age of 32, and the future of Paul Pogba seeming uncertain as always, there is no doubt that Solskjaer would be willing to shell out €40 million to sign Ndidi, who has been linked previously to Chelsea FC as well as Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Manchester United FC have been linked to a host of star midfielders in recent weeks including Bayern Munich’s Corentin Tolisso, Donny van de Beek, and former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey. However, Ndidi rumours do make sense for the Red Devils as the Nigerian international is relatively young as compared to other targets and has excelled in the Premier League so far.
