Wout Weghorst open to moving to Besiktas on a long-term deal

Burnley striker Wout Weghorst has opened the door for a long-term move to Besiktas after his brief loan stint at Premier League side Manchester United.

The Dutch international played on loan with the Turkish team for the first part of the season before deciding to end his agreement and join the Red Devils in January.

With only two goals and three assists during his time at Old Trafford, it is now being suggested that he would sign with Besiktas again after a disappointing first stint.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Istanbul club is willing to sign him on a permanent basis, but Senol Gunes will make the final call.

The Netherlands star joined United after a successful loan spell at Besiktas. He scored nine goals and provided four assists in 18 appearances for Besiktas. However, he has had difficulty maintaining such consistency with United. He often starts up front, but in 23 games in all competitions, he has only contributed to five goals.

Weghorst has impressed with his high work rate and pressure game in the final third, but scoring goals is still a striker’s major responsibility. In that regard, he has mostly failed.

We believe that United will not spend £10-15 million to convince Burnley to sell him this summer. The funds may instead be utilised to intensify their search for a star striker who would ensure goals, like Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, or Goncalo Ramos.
