Zidane Iqbal joins same agency that represents United manager Erik ten Hag

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United starlet Zidane Iqbal has signed with the same agency that manages Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford.

The 19-year-old was welcomed as a new client by SEG International on Monday morning. Iqbal was formerly CAA Base’s client. Iqbal is believed to have been persuaded to sign with SEG in part because of their affiliation with United manager Ten Hag.

Iqbal made an impression during United’s preseason tour of Thailand and Australia, but he hasn’t played a single game this year and his only first-team action still counts as his debut against Young Boys in December 2021 under Ralf Rangnick.

Iqbal was interested in a loan during the January transfer window, but nothing happened. His prospects of playing for the first squad are even slimmer now that Christian Eriksen and Casemiro are returning after missing 14 United games this season due to injury.

Kobbie Mainoo, a fellow academy graduate, has surpassed Iqbal in the midfield pecking order. The 17-year-old made his Premier League debut in February as a substitute against Leicester after making his complete debut in the League Cup quarterfinal victory against Charlton.

Iqbal was omitted from the starting lineup in favour of Mainoo for both the first leg of the round of 16 victories against Real Betis and the second leg of the Europa League play-off versus Barcelona.

Additionally, he was included as a substitute in last month’s home matches against Southampton and Fulham. Iqbal has started the last of the three games for United’s Under-21s.
