Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville speaks about what United is lacking and feels Jose Mourinho is not the one to be blamed for United’s drastic downfall.
With a lot of blames being targeted on Mourinho for the sick attitude and indecent approach by Red Devils, Neville, however, feels Mourinho is not the one behind this catastrophic fall and suggests sacking David Moyes is where it all began.
“This mess started when United sacked David Moyes after 8 months and we lost all sense of the values that the club had been built on for 100 years. It’s not the manager it’s the lack of football leadership above him. They are bouncing all over the place with no plan!”
Sir Alex Ferguson can you be back? A team deeply in need of this iconic manager. Not only they are lacking a positive dressing-room atmosphere but also a leader on the field.
Even if we keep this issue aside, there is one more knot that needs to be untied. The knot of Mourinho and Woodward.
Neville’s former United teammate Rio Ferdinand believes Woodward is now facing a major dilemma over Mourinho.
He told BT Sport: “There will be conversations at the top level about the future of the manager and the squad. The basics are not being done and something has to be said.”
“You can’t let a situation like this continue throughout the season – wars in the press, leaks, players on one side of the dressing room, Mourinho and his staff on the other. If that continues this will be one of the worst seasons in the club’s history.”
Let’s have a journey of the Timeline of Glories:
1968: Matt Busby wins it for United
United became the first English team to win the European Cup. What was commendable that the triumph came just 10 years after the disastrous demise of 8 of the Busby Babes in Munich Air. Coming up as a team in such a short time and building it stronger than ever to win a trophy was what made the moment glorious.
1990: Fergie saved from being sacked
Imagine Alex Ferguson being sacked as the manager of United? In the wildest of dreams, one would think of sacking a manager of his aura. But yes, in 1990 Ferguson was about to be sacked after three dismal seasons but saved his ass after winning the FA Cup of the same year.
1999: Treble to cherish
Even if you win a single trophy out of FA Cup, Premier League or Champions League you are far from good. But to win all the three in a single season is not easy unless you have a team that United had in the year 1999 during the years of Giggs.
2008: Champion of the Champions
The king of Champions league then in United helped Red Devils bring the trophy home. With a win against Chelsea in spot-kick decider made them European champions for the third time when a feisty match finally came to an end.
2013: A tribute to Alex
No fan would have wanted the reign of Fergie to end but when the day had come Fergie did go with a smile, 13th Premier League title and countless other hardware.
BUT…….
Things are getting from bad to worse for United. Not able to perform well is a little chunk of the colossal amount of restlessness going around the team. Worried from the start of the season by not getting the desired center-back, United have fallen into pieces and have also torn their Premier league title chances altogether. If only a miraculous happening could save the Red Devils.
