Manchester United FC, before last season ended, were reported to have a huge summer causing a massive overhaul in the squad. But with about 18 days to go for the window to close United have signed only one player and have sold one player. The incompetence of the United board has been on the show yet again, as the club has been linked to several players, signing only one, much to the disgust of the fans and Solskjaer.
As usual, United were linked to a host of different players, but the club have seriously monitored a few players’ situations as well. The Red Devils have yet again failed to get players quickly and this time have come off even worse signing only one player with the Premier League campaign to begin on Saturday.
Let us now have a look at the player’s Manchester United have been closely linked, the club has monitored but have failed to sign.
#1-JUDE BELLINGHAM –
The youngster was one of Solskjaer’s priorities this summer, as he had done very well for Birmingham despite his tender age. The 16-year old was reportedly also given a tour of Carrington, with the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson leading the charge. But Dortmund had also shown an interest in the youngster as the club is known for developing young players into superstars.
As the summer moved on, Bellingham slowly but gradually etched closer towards a move to Dortmund despite interests from United. It was reported that the German club guaranteed Bellingham game-time in the first-team which United could not. Thus Bellingham signed for Borussia Dortmund and has also scored for them in his first official game for the German club.
#2-GABRIEL MAGALHAES –
It was reported that Manchester United are in the lookout of a centre-back this summer and were linked to Gabriel Magalhaes. Magalhaes is a left-footed centre-back who is young, quick and well-built, exactly what United need in a defender to play with Harry Maguire. The Red Devils monitored the centre-back’s situation at Lille, as the French club was open to selling him for a good price.
Magalhaes was reportedly happy as United’s link surfaced all over the media but Arsenal were also interested in the centre-back. According to reports, the Red Devils weren’t prepared to pay up the asking fee for Magalhaes and tried to negotiate the price down. But in the nick of time, Arsenal paid up the price tag on the centre-back and he has even scored in his Premier League debut for Arsenal.
#3-SERGIO REGUILON –
In Manchester United’s search for a left-back this summer, United were closely linked with Sergio Reguilon after his stellar season at Sevilla on-loan. The Spanish international is deemed as surplus to needs at Real Madrid and the club was ready to sell Reguilon but with a buy-back clause inserted in his contract. It was also reported that United had agreed on terms with Reguilon and were ready to place a bid for him.
But United were offering Madrid lesser money than they had asked for, and thus Tottenham came into the race to get Reguilon. Spurs agreed to pay what Madrid demanded and were also happy for the buy-back clause to be inserted in Reguilon’s contract. It is now being reported that Tottenham have hijacked a deal for the left-back, who will play for the London club this season.
#4-THIAGO ALCANTARA –
Although Thiago is still at Bayern Munich, he has made it clear to everyone in Bavaria that he wants to leave. The midfielder has entered the last season of his contract and has disagreed to sign an extension as he waits for a different adventure in his career. Liverpool have been in pole position for signing the midfield maestro, but still haven’t bid for Thiago yet, and United should have taken advantage of the situation.
It has been reported that United are reluctant to pay his high wages, but he deserves it, as he is one of the best midfielders in the world. With Liverpool’s reluctance and Thiago’s quality in availability, Manchester United should have been all over this deal as he would have replaced Matic in the starting XI.
