Manchester United Player Ratings against Brighton and Hove Albion | EPL 2020-21

Manchester United got their first victory in the Premier League this season after a last-minute victory over Brighton, in the Amex Arena. United put in another poor performance for most parts of the game but were lucky to get the win. None of the Red Devils were on song, as Brighton dominated for most parts of the game even though United had better players.

Let us now have a look at Manchester United’s player ratings against Brighton.

DAVID DE GEA – 7

David De Gea made a great save tonight but stood still for most of the game as Brighton hit the post five times. The Spanish international had a couple of them under control to be fair with his though.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 5

Wan-Bissaka looked rusty and his control on the ball was an asset for Brighton, as he gave the ball so many times. The right-back was also at fault for Brighton’s second goal as he left his man alone in the far post.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 6

Maguire was far from comfortable against the continuous waves of crosses from the Brighton wing-backs. The centre-back failed to close down shots from outside the box but almost scored himself.

VICTOR LINDELOF – 5

Lindelof didn’t do anything to justify his selection over Eric Bailly and failed to put any pressure on the Brighton strike force.

LUKE SHAW – 6

Shaw had a very average game as he tried to create from his overlapping runs but couldn’t. He can be deemed culprit for allowing Brighton to easily put a cross in for their second goal.

NEMANJA MATIC – 7

The Serbian justified his place in the starting XI as he the only calming figure amongst all the chaos. Even with Pogba not at his best, and Brighton attacking well, Matic did his job well and tried to keep United ticking.

PAUL POGBA – 6

Paul Pogba had another poor run-in as he failed to control the midfield and was visible off the pace. The Frenchman has just recovered from COVID-19, and it seems he will need some time to come back to his best.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 8

Bruno Fernandes was surely the best player on the pitch, even though he gave a penalty away. With the assist to Rashford’s goal and the last-minute penalty, he has proven why Solskjaer keeps him on the pitch for the entire game.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 8

Marcus Rashford scored a superb solo goal which turned out to be United’s second goal of the game. Apart from the goal, Rashford was lively in parts and also assisted Greenwood, which was later chucked off by VAR.

ANTHONY MARTIAL – 6

Anthony Martial had another very quiet game and failed to produce any moment of magic. He had a couple of good half chances to score but failed to take any of them.

MASON GREENWOOD – 7

Mason Greenwood scored a goal in the first-half but it was scratched off by VAR. The youngster had moments but really failed to have any impact on the game. With an out of form Wan-Bissaka, Greenwood had to drop back to help the right-back as Brighton attacked in numbers.

SUBSTITUTES

FRED – 7

Fred came on for Pogba near the one-hour mark and played well defensively. The Brazilian is slowly proving his worth in a United shirt and has become a good back-up from the bench.

ERIC BAILLY – 6

Even though it was expected that Bailly would start, Lindelof started instead. Bailly was brought on later in the game for Greenwood as United changed their system to a 3-5-2. He tried his best to stop the cross from reaching its target, but could little.

DONNY VAN DE BEEK – 6

Van de Beek came on very late in the game for Anthony Martial. The Dutchman had only a few touches on the ball and didn’t influence the play.
